I love being able to be creative and work on growing my little business. I regularly look for great deals where I can snatch up fun products I can use to make things, organize my sewing/crafting room, keep my business in order and all the other great stuff that goes along with running a small biz.
Please check out my website (currently under construction by my great friend Kristen of K.Leigh Creative) and on the front page you will find many companies that I LOVE and do business with for various reasons.
I hope you will check out these awesome companies and consider them when looking for new companies to do business with. And you can help me grow my business by shopping with them via the links to them on my website. I’ve been very satisfied with all of my interactions with them and hope you will be too. Feel free to post a comment asking me any questions you may have. Thanks for supporting these companies who are supporting me…and thanks for supporting me by clicking on the links on my page.
Starting this week my friend Kristen from K.Leigh Creative will be working on updating my website – GeminiRed Creations. I can’t wait to see how beautiful it is when it’s done. This is a glimpse of the first mock-up she did for my salon years ago (the colors have faded now, but overall the look is lovely).
I can’t seem to find an electronic copy of it anywhere although I’m sure I had one (or many) at one point.
This is what my site looks like today…
The theme I currently have is simply something I chose from a long list of free WordPress themes. I chose something that had red in it, for obvious reasons, but I haven’t been able to manipulate it and make it my own. Kristen and I got together to talk about what I am looking for and some ideas and now we will be on our way to beautifying my site.
The main thing will be coming up a pretty look and theme, allowing my listings to look uncluttered, and showcasing my affiliate relationships (with the companies I frequently do business with in order to make my small business a success).
Be sure to be on the lookout for the newly launched site in the near future.
That being said…I will be moving this WordPress hosted blog to my own site. And, because I’m using this blog to promote my own craft as well as the craft/expertise of others I’m looking for a new heading for it. My Craft Corner is too artsy-crafty if I also want to discuss my friends and family who carve wood, bake cakes, make soap, build websites, etc. If you have any ideas I’d love to hear them!
The paint is on the wall! You can read about the proposed transformation here. (Well…it has been for over a week, but I’ve been slow to post). I made a trip to CT to visit family and friends and came home the next day (after driving 2 days up and 2 days back) and painted. I LOVE the way it turned out.
The only thing it is currently missing is a new photo to the left of the metal dresses. A friend of mine took an amazing photo of a purple iris and it is on the way from Art.com – blown up, matted, and framed with the same matte and frame as the Eifel Tower photo on the right. I can’t wait to see the final (final) product once the photo is hung. Here is a mock-up of what it’s supposed to look like when it arrives in the mail.
I will update the post when the photo is received and hung on the wall. Just a side note…my friend and I had some fun trying to hang my other pictures and items. We used several tools and stood back to ensure everything was straight many, many times. Hanging the new photo will likely be just as challenging as we try to make it line up perfectly with everything else.
I rearranged the prints I originally had hanging on the right of the dresses and I think they look better on the side wall now. I believe my room is finally coming together!
These adorable prints are from an amazing Etsy site – Flapperdoodle. You can follow her blog here. She has the most adorable prints and necklace charms!
I’m boring…I’m just going to put that out there! I live on the 2nd floor of my parents home which consists of 2 full baths, a bedroom, my sewing/craft room, and an in home office with 2 desks. The office was painted a deep red when we first moved in so it would be more androgynous because the plan was for my step-father and I to share the office (that lasted less than a year). I love red so I love it anyway! I now use his desk as my work from home (WFH) desk on the days I am able to forgo the commute through metro-Atlanata traffic and my desk is for my personal/GeminiRed stuff.
Well, aside from the excitement of the red walls in the office there is no color on the walls anywhere. When I decided to paint the walls a couple of years ago I chose a beautiful Pearl. Yep…Pearl. Boring, boring Pearl – so basically Off-White. I made myself feel good about it because that meant I could change-up my bed linens, my bathroom accessories and my sewing/crafting room could have just about anything on the wall (oh…I should mention its original purpose was my library/sitting/reading room).
The room itself is much different from this picture as I’ve rearranged numerous times getting it “just right” so my creativity can flow. And in recent weeks I decided I really need to give that room a bright and cheery transformation so I started thinking of painting the one wall you see in this picture – it’s the first wall you see when coming up the stairs and when you enter the room. My initial thoughts were to get something in either the purple or orange family. That met with some scrunched up noses when I brought it up with others. So, today I took a little walk through the paint aisle at Lowe’s and brought home some swatches.
I decided to go with the only color in this grouping that wasn’t part of the “family” of colors shown.
One of these things is not like the other – one of these things DOES belong! I have chosen Raspberry Tart (and if you look to the left you will see that it might actually be a nice contrast with the metal dresses I have hanging up over my sewing table). I’m pretty excited and can’t wait to see the finished look. However, I have to wait until after I return from my road trip to CT and back. My mother and I take an annual drive (well, I drive and she rides) to CT to visit my now 90-year-old grandmother. It’s a long trip, but as soon as I get back I plan on throwing on my painting clothes and transforming that room! Can’t wait to show you the finished look!
Hi everyone! I recently came across an awesome blog post about aprons for Haiti (find more information here ) and so I had to look into this further. Many of you probably know that I started my little GeminiRed Creations business because of the want/need for an apron. A little over a year later I still make aprons, but I also make just about anything that strikes my fancy or that people ask me to create.
So, of course, I knew I had to get involved with making these aprons. From what I can tell many people have been sending 3 aprons. I’d love to send at least 10 (although, on GoFundMe I’ve set a lofty goal of raising $1,000 for this cause). I have set up the GoFundMe page to raise money for purchasing fabric and supplies and to continue doing events like this.
Years before opening (and eventually closing) my salon I always knew that while owning a business I wanted to “give back” and do for others. My goal has always been to give a portion of what I create and earn to those less fortunate or to help find a cure for things such as Crohn’s and Colitis. I give 10% of what I earn to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and would love to create wonderful products that inspire people to purchase them so that I can continue to give. As well as help me with projects like Craft Hope Aprons for Haiti.
The original deadline for sending aprons was the end of May, but it has been extended through June, so I am putting needle to fabric and going to sew up a bunch to send.
I appreciate your help, and as always your love and support! Thank you for always helping me make my dreams come true!
Who doesn’t love a cute apron?
I first learned about Fabric.com because a previous employee made my friend’s absolutely amazing wedding dress! So, I started following the blog. And THEN…that’s where I found some sparkly skull fabric which I’ve used to make cute aprons and a couple teddy bears (one is still a work in progress)!
Since that time I have continued to follow the blog, which always has great inspirational ideas for projects. They have everything from knitting and embroidery to decorating eggs and sewing! You can check out their blog here.
Because of my love of all things fabric, their online store, and their blog I’ve recently signed up as an affiliate. Use the link on the right hand side of my blog to get FREE SHIPPING on your orders of $35 and up.
With the help of my blog followers I hope to continue to grow my GeminiRed Creations brand and shop! Please help me by checking out those companies with whom I have partnered.
I’ve recently seen a lot of information on Facebook about a company with an odd name – Moo.com. Have you seen it? They have been offering free cards to encourage people to “like” your Facebook business page. I saw it and said, “Why the heck not?” And I ordered my cards… http://us.moo.com/products/facebook-cards.html
They seem to have a lot of great offerings beyond the Facebook cards, and so I’ve signed up to be an affiliate via my blog and GeminiRed Creations shop. I believe in supporting businesses that want to help small businesses grow.
Ever since closing my salon and 2008 I’ve been on a mission to help any of my friends (and family) who have small businesses and also to create a new small business of my own. It may not be the business that gets me out of Corporate America, but it gives me the opportunity to be creative and use the right side of my brain. For those that can’t recall – here is a reminder of what each side of the brain does. Creativity, artistic and musical skills and photographic memories are part of the right cerebral cortex of the brain. Mathematic skills and easy work with numbers and words come from the left hemisphere. (Thank you Wiki Answsers for your help.)
If you are one of my small business friends…you may want to check out Moo.com.
